Every product has its own personality, and I love working with clients to bring that to life through photography. For Suelo, that meant colour and a little creativity to create the perfect setting for each product to shine.

Colour, creativity and a little fun

Photographing Suelo’s gorgeous natural skincare products was fabulous fun! Kajal, Suelo’s founder, and I talked about the personality of each product, then played with colours and props to create little stages for them to shine. The result? A colourful collection of photographs that captures Suelo’s personality and gives each product its own moment in the spotlight.

Giving each product its own personality

Bold and bright for zinc

We went bold with bright colours for Suelo’s zinc products. The vibrant backgrounds bring energy and fun to the images, helping the products stand out.

A little sunshine for lip balm

Happy yellow and hints of the beach were just right for the lip balm…feeling like the sunny days when we reach for a good lip balm.

Earthy tones for hand and foot moisturiser

Earthy browns were a natural fit for Suelo’s hand and foot moisturiser, creating a warm, grounded look that reflects its connection with nature.

Warm marble tones for tinted moisturiser

For the tinted moisturiser, we chose warm, clean marble tones to create a fresh, inviting look that complements the product.

Getting to know the business behind the products

As a business photographer, I love getting to know local pakihi, understanding their stories and discovering what makes their products and brands unique.

Kajal created Suelo after struggling to find natural skincare products that were both affordable and sustainable for her family. She began making her own, and what started as a personal solution grew into a local skincare business here in Whakatāne, Bay of Plenty.

Suelo’s focus on natural skincare and reducing environmental impact extends to its packaging, with options including glass jars and biodegradable packaging.

Products I love using, too!

There's something special about photographing products you enjoy yourself. Suelo’s lip balm feels lovely, and I love that its push-up tube packaging can be composted when it's finished.

I also use Suelo’s tinted zinc regularly. My skin is still recovering from chemotherapy, so finding products that feel comfortable on my skin and fit into my everyday routine is important to me.

And the face moisturiser? I wish I could share the smell through the photographs. Oh wow!

Product photography that works for your business

When I work with a business, we start with a conversation. I want to understand what makes your products special, who your customers are, what you want people to notice or feel, and where you'll use the photographs — whether that's your website, social media or other marketing materials. From there, we plan the shoot together, choosing colours, props, backgrounds and details that support your brief and reflect your brand.

The aim isn't simply to produce a collection of nice images. It's to create purposeful photographs that tell your story, showcase what you offer and give you visual content to use across your business. For Suelo, that meant bringing together colour and an understanding of what makes each product special — helping showcase a local business and the care behind its products.
